This is a nice Iver Johnson Top Break Safety Hammerless Model 1 revolver. It is the first model chambered for the black powder .32 cal S&W with free wheeling cylinder. Single top latch, manufactured in 1894, serial number 53328 (no letter prefix). Marked on the top of the barrel rib is: IVER JOHNSON'S ARMS & CYCLE WORKS FITCHBURG, MASS. U.S.A. PAT'D. APR.6.86. FEB.15.87. MAY.10.87. DEC.26.93 PAT'S PENDING. This is a very early example of an Iver Johnson .32 cal Safety Hammerless, Automatic, Double-Action Revolver. This particular gun is called a Model 1, First Model. It has the early style single top latch design (latch is located only on the left side). There were only produced for a short time in 1894 before the Model 1, First Model, 1st Variation was introduced in 1895. The barrel measures 3". The finish is nickel plate overall with blued trigger guard, case colored trigger, and the original checkered hard rubber grips featuring the Iver Johnson Owl logo, with the Owl looking toward the barrel. Condition is antique very good with 96% original plating remaining. Good case colors on the trigger guard and on the trigger. Hard rubber grips are excellent with no chips, cracks, or repairs. Action works perfectly. Latch is tight and locks barrel to the frame. Bore is excellent. Please note: Iver Johnson produced these revolvers specifically for black power and they are not designed to withstand the pressures of modern ammunition. It's not very often you come across Iver Johnson revolvers in this good condition with a definitive antique Pre-1898 serial number.
